Orthodontist Jersey

Joseph has practised orthodontics for 30 years and is registered as an Orthodontic Specialist with the General Dental Council. Graduating in Dentistry from the University of Glasgow in 1992, he spent time in general practice before enrolling as a postgraduate at Newcastle Dental School, where he gained a Master’s degree in Restorative (Cosmetic) Dentistry in 1994. After two further years as a member of clinical staff at Newcastle Dental Hospital, he was elected as a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and awarded the College certificate for best performance by examination in 1995. Subsequently, he was appointed Registrar in Orthodontics at Bristol Dental School in 1996 and completed his specialist orthodontic training by examination in 1999, gaining his Membership in Orthodontics (M.Orth) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. A further Master of Science degree was completed in 2000 at the University of Bristol.

Joseph has worked in Jersey for the last 15 years and leads one of only two orthodontic specialist-led teams working in practice on the island. He also currently works with secondary care colleagues to reduce the island’s hospital orthodontic waiting list.  His clinical interests are in children’s orthodontics and complex adult cases using fixed appliances and aligners, and he has a keen interest in the use of technology to optimise treatment efficiency and outcomes.

Joseph has also held administration posts in healthcare. From 2016-2021, he was the Orthodontic Chair for the South West of England clinical network, which liaised and advised NHS England on orthodontic services.

Renate qualified as a Dental Hygienist and Therapist from King’s College London in 2013, having previously completed a degree in Biomedical Materials Science & Engineering at Queen Mary University of London. She went on to qualify as an Orthodontic Therapist from the University of Bristol in 2018, where she developed her specialist interest in orthodontics and patient smile transformation.

Renate now focuses primarily on her role as an Orthodontic Therapist, working closely with both adults and children throughout their treatment journey. Known for her calm, friendly approach, Renate has a natural ability to put even the most nervous patients at ease, ensuring a positive and comfortable experience at every stage of treatment.

Renate is committed to ongoing professional development and regularly attends advanced training to stay at the forefront of modern techniques.

Alongside her orthodontic work, Renate holds an advanced qualification in Facial Aesthetics (2020), allowing her to offer a range of complementary treatments. Outside of work, she enjoys life as a mum, travelling and the occasional game of poker. She is also fluent in Arabic.

Lou is one of our dedicated Orthodontic Therapists. Passionate about patient care, precision, and creating confident smiles. Working along side Joe and Renate she forms a key part of the team that treats patients at Jersey orthodontic Centre. 

Lou qualified as an orthodontic therapist from Bristol Dental School in 2018 but working within dentistry for over 25 years.
